Arnold Golden Smith leaves behind a lifetime of love, family connections and cherished memories that will remain with those who knew him. His death has brought sadness to the Pleasant Valley community and to the many relatives and friends who shared his life.
Arnold died peacefully at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Charlottetown on August 11, 2026, according to his obituary. He was in his 71st year and had been living in Pleasant Valley.
He is survived by his life partner of 41 years, Carter Jeffery, along with siblings David, Dianne, Vivian and Nancy, foster siblings Judy and Anita, numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Arnold’s final chapter included a courageous battle with cancer. His family expressed heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers, nurses and doctors at the Prince Edward Island Cancer Treatment Centre and Queen Elizabeth Hospital who cared for him throughout his illness. They also offered special thanks to his family doctor, Dr. Andrew Wohglemut.
Arnold was predeceased by his parents, George and Dorothy Smith, as well as other members of his extended family.
Visitation will take place Monday, August 17, 2026, from 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at Central Queen’s Funeral Home in New Glasgow. A private Celebration of Life will follow at a later date, with interment planned at Pleasant Valley United Church Cemetery.
Arnold’s memory will live on through Carter, his family, friends and the many people whose lives he touched.
