For years, Dr Johann Viljoen was more than a medical professional in Knysna. Dr Viljoen died on Friday, August 14, 2026, in a fatal head-on collision on the N2 near White Bridge, Knysna, according to local reporting and police information. He was travelling in a Ford Everest when it collided with a Bitou Municipality Waste Management truck. Viljoen and his passenger, practice manager Charl Steenekamp, were declared dead at the scene. The truck driver was seriously injured and taken to hospital.
