The Ateneo de Zamboanga University community is grieving after a shooting at the school in Zamboanga City on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, left two students dead, including the alleged shooter. Mayor Khymer Olaso confirmed the fatalities and said the incident happened at about 8:30 a.m.

Recent reports circulating online have identified the alleged shooter as Nael Jalani.
