Bonnie Tyler Funeral: Fans Gather in Swansea to Remember Music Legend

The life and music of Bonnie Tyler were celebrated in her native Wales as family, friends and hundreds of admirers gathered to pay their respects to the legendary singer.

Tyler, whose real name was Gaynor Hopkins, died on July 8, 2026, at the age of 75 in Portugal following complications after emergency intestinal surgery. Her death brought an outpouring of grief from fans around the world.

Her celebration-of-life service was held at Swansea Minster on Monday, August 17, 2026. Before the service, her coffin was taken through her hometown of Skewen, allowing members of the public to line the route and say farewell.

Tyler became one of Wales’ most internationally recognized singers, with a career spanning decades. Her distinctive, powerful voice helped make songs including “Total Eclipse of the Heart,” “It’s a Heartache,” and “Holding Out for a Hero” enduring classics.
