John Schoenberg Obituary New Hyde Park, NY Death: Cardinal Spellman HS Mourns Beloved Teacher

For 21 years, Mr. John Schoenberg gave generations of students something that reached far beyond the traditional classroom. Through his teaching, encouragement, and belief in the potential of young people, he became a valued member of the Cardinal Spellman High School community.

The school community is now mourning his passing and remembering a teacher whose influence will continue through the countless students he helped prepare for life after graduation.

Mr. Schoenberg was deeply committed to helping students understand that success could take many different forms. Rather than encouraging them to follow a single path, he challenged young people to discover the direction that was right for them.

One of the ways he brought that philosophy into his classroom was by regularly inviting professionals and guest speakers to speak with his students. These experiences gave them opportunities to hear about different careers, life experiences, and perspectives while expanding their understanding of what might be possible beyond school.

For many former students, his greatest legacy will be the guidance and care he offered during their formative years. His lessons were not limited to academic subjects; they also encouraged students to think about their futures and approach life with confidence and purpose.

The Spellman community has expressed gratitude for the knowledge, guidance, and commitment Mr. Schoenberg shared throughout his 21 years at the school. His family, friends, colleagues, and former students are now being remembered in prayers as they mourn his loss.

Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, August 20, from 2–4 p.m. and 7–9 p.m. at New Hyde Park Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will follow Friday, August 21, at 10:45 a.m. at Notre Dame R.C. Church.

Mr. Schoenberg’s impact will live on in the students whose lives he helped shape.
