Carter Devon Stockert brought warmth, kindness and an unmistakable sense of care to the people around him. Though his life ended far too soon, at just 26, the memories he created with family, students, friends and colleagues will remain a lasting part of his legacy.
Born July 14, 2000, in Alexandria, Minnesota, Carter died on August 13, 2026. He was the beloved son of Brian and Carolyn and brother of Blake. Growing up in Alexandria, Carter shared his love of basketball and baseball with his brother, playing for the Alexandria Cardinals.
His passion for baseball continued at North Dakota State University, where he pitched for the NDSU Bison. Carter graduated from NDSU with honors before beginning his teaching career.
At South Elementary in West Fargo, Carter was deeply loved by his students and coworkers. He was described as a “ray of sunshine,” and his compassion was evident in the way he supported students with limitations. He created adaptive equipment so they could participate in activities alongside their classmates.
Carter was remembered as someone with a servant’s heart and deep empathy. Family was central to his life, and their guiding phrase, “Hold the Rope,” reflected the trust, commitment and support they shared.
He leaves behind his parents Brian and Carolyn; brother Blake and sister-in-law Krista; nephew Sawyer; grandparents Pauline Larson and Marve Stockert and extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by grandparents Linda Stockert and Richard “Bopa” Larson and uncle Sean Stockert.
Visitation and memorial services are scheduled for August 20 and 21 in Alexandria.
Carter’s life may have been brief, but his kindness, humor and dedication will continue through everyone he touched.
