Lainey Mae Scroggs brought an extraordinary amount of joy into her 13 years of life. Known for her bright personality, determination, humor and love for the people around her, she passed away peacefully on August 12, 2026, surrounded by her family in Temperance, Michigan.
Born June 12, 2013, to William “Billy” and Sarah Scroggs, Lainey was a dedicated student who consistently earned all A’s. She was preparing to enter eighth grade at Bedford Junior High School in September.
Cheerleading was one of the greatest passions of her young life. She participated in sideline and competitive cheer, particularly enjoying her role as a flyer. Her determination pushed her to learn new tumbling skills and master increasingly difficult stunts.
Her relationship with her mother was especially meaningful, including the years Sarah coached sideline cheer. Lainey also shared a close, playful bond with her father and deeply admired her older sister, Kenna.
Beyond school and cheer, Lainey loved music, friendships, golf-cart rides, pickleball, Cedar Point, Orange Beach, Sunset Cove and keeping up with TikTok trends. She was known for her humor, kindness and ability to make others laugh.
Lainey is survived by her parents, sister, grandparents, extended family, friends, classmates and teammates.
Visitation is scheduled for August 16, followed by her Celebration of Life on August 17. A Bedford Community Memorial Service will take place August 18.
Though her life was brief, Lainey left a lasting light through every friendship, laugh, cheer and memory she created.
