Diane M. Ellis Obituary (2026) - Estero, FL Car Accident Death: Accomplished Retail Executive Dies at 68

Diane M. Ellis built a remarkable life defined by leadership, generosity and an enduring commitment to the people around her. Her family announced that Diane, 68, of Estero, Florida, and formerly of Pleasantville and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, died suddenly on Friday, August 14, 2026.

Born February 9, 1958, in Aspinwall, Pennsylvania, Diane was the daughter of the late Vincent P. and Evelyn (Libengood) Hanlon. She graduated from Fox Chapel High School in 1976 before continuing her education at Chatham University.

Her distinguished career included more than a decade as Director of Retail Strategy at PriceWaterhouseCoopers in New York before she became a founding partner of Lighthouse Retail Group. She later served six years as President and COO of Brooks Brothers, followed by leadership positions at The Limited Group and Chico’s. In 2018, the National Retail Federation recognized her as a Top 3 Power Player Shaping the Future of Retail.

Diane’s influence extended beyond corporate leadership. She served on boards including Stage Stores and Grove City College and participated in speaking and advisory roles.

Yet her greatest joy came through family, friendships and everyday experiences. She loved traveling, gardening, the outdoors, concerts, art festivals, pets and preparing meals for those she loved. Her family especially cherished her role as “Grandma Di” to Owen and Amelia.

Diane is survived by her husband, John W. Ellis Jr., three stepchildren, grandchildren, brother, nieces, nephews, cousins and many other loved ones.

There will be no public visitation. Celebrations of Diane’s life in Pittsburgh and Estero will be announced later.

Her legacy of leadership, warmth and positivity will endure through everyone fortunate enough to have known her.
