A fatal crash on Route 202 in Torrington, Connecticut, has left the community mourning after a pedestrian was struck and killed Thursday night, August 13, 2026.
According to Torrington police, officers responded at approximately 9:37 p.m. to the 1900 block of East Main Street, also known as Route 202, following reports of a vehicle striking a pedestrian.
The victim was identified as Joel Leyden, 73, of New York, New York. Police said Leyden was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators said Leyden was struck by a 2019 Subaru traveling eastbound on East Main Street. The driver remained at the scene and has been cooperating with authorities. Police reported that no other injuries were involved in the crash.
